Hedwigia 80: 259. 1941. Didymodon yunnanensis (Herz.) Broth., Nat. Pflanzenfam. ed. 2, 11: 528. 1925. Erythrophyllum yunnanense Herz., Hedwigia 65: 152. 1925. Type. China: Yunnan, Bi-jiang Co., S. Ten 67 (holotype H).

 

Plants medium-sized, 1–2 cm high, dull green to reddish brown, in dense tufts. Stems erect, simple or branched; central strand present. Leaves narrowly ovate-lanceolate, gradually acute; margin entire in lower 2¤3, recurved, irregularly dentate in upper 1¤3; costa strong, percurrent or just ending 2–3 cells below the apex; upper leaf cells rounded hexagonal, moderately thick-walled, with rounded or C-shaped papillae; basal cells rectangular, smooth, hyaline, forming a distinct differentiated base. Sporophytes not seen.
