Habitat: commonly on moist and warm forest ground and in grass; alt. 800–2250 m.
Distribution: China, Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan, India (Darjeeling), and Myanmar.

general taxon notes:
This is a rather large species. It is recognized by its low leaf lamellae with basal cells in pairs. Its dentate sheathing leaf margin is also unique in Pogonatum.

Plants robust, yellowish green, in loose and large cushions. Stems often branched above, up to 10 cm long. Basal leaves scale-like, upper leaves thin, delicate, crisped when dry, lanceolate, sheathing base nearly as wide as or slightly wider than the limb, ca. 1–2 cm long, 1–2 mm wide; lamellae sparse, only growing on the ventral surface of costa, 1–2 cells high, thin-walled; apical cells of lamellae usually undifferentiated, or slightly longer than the other cells; basal cells rectangular, thick-walled, ca. 75 µm × 15 µm; upper leaf cells rounded quadrate or rectangular, thin- to thick-walled, ca. 12 µm in diameter. Dioicous. Setae brown, single, ca. 3 cm long; capsules cylindrical, inclined, brown when old, ca. 5 mm long, 1.2 mm in diameter; exothecial cells thick-walled, smooth; peristome teeth 32, with brown stripes. Calyptrae covering the whole capsule. Spores spherical, 5–11 µm in diameter.
