general taxon notes:

Distichophyllum tortile is easily identified by its usually large plants and the largest leaf cells among all Chinese species of the genus. The lax and thin-walled leaf areolation is comparable to D. subnigricaule, but the leaf apices of D. tortile have stout acumens measuring 50–100 µm long. The leaf apices of D. subnigricaule are broadly rounded, only occasionally becoming weakly apiculate. Sometimes, smaller plants of D. tortile can be confused with D. collenchymatosum. Nonetheless, the large and lax leaf cells and the papillose setae of D. tortile are two reliable distinguishing characters.
