Plants medium-sized to rather robust, green, brownish, or reddish brown. Stems prostrate, irregularly branched; rhizoids few, often occurring at base of costa; pseudoparaphyllia foliose; stem rounded in cross-section; cortical cells large, hyaline; central strand weakly differentiated. Stem leaves involute, 3.5–4.5 mm × 1.5–2.0 mm, slightly plicate, gradually narrowed from an ovate or ovate-lanceolate base to a long acuminate apex, straight at base, curved above; margins entire, rarely serrulate at apex; costae single, extending beyond mid-leaf; median leaf cells elongate, 60–130 mm × 4–8 mm, thin-walled, not porose, sometimes thick-walled, porose; basal cells broad, thick-walled, porose; alar cells 2–10, hyaline, inflated, without forming a distinctly defined group, rarely decurrent. Sporophytes not seen.
