Plants medium-sized to rather large, green, brownish, sometimes reddish brown, in dense mats. Stems prostrate, to ca. 8 cm long, pinnately branched, curved at tips of stems and branches; rhizoids few, often present at base of leaf costa; pseudoparaphyllia few, foliose; stem rounded in cross section; cortical cells small, thick-walled, in 1–2 layers; central strand absent. Stem leaves involute, 1.5–2.5 mm × 0.7–1.0 mm, slightly plicate, ovate at base, gradually narrowed to a short or long acumen, sometimes curved above; margins entire, only finely serrulate at apex; costae single, extending beyond mid-leaf; median leaf cells linear, 30–130 mm × 4–7 mm, curved, usually thin-walled, not porose, rarely thick-walled, porose; basal cells broader, shorter than median cells, thick-walled, porose; alar cells not differentiated, barely decurrent. Sporophytes not seen.
