general taxon notes:
This species is characterized by the ovate-lanceolate leaves that are asymmetric and have acute apices, forked costae, and more or less prorate leaf cells.

Plants yellowish green or dark green, not glossy. Stems prostrate, irregularly pinnately branched, branches ca. 5 mm long; in stem cross section epidermal cells not inflated, outer cortical cells small, thick-walled; central strand developed; pseudoparaphyllia narrowly lanceolate, 2–7 cells wide at base. Stem leaves straight or slightly falcate, ovate-lanceolate, 1.5–1.5 mm × 0.35–0.50 mm, usually asymmetric, shortly acuminate to acute, not decurrent; margins plane, serrulate above; costae double or forked, only reaching 1/5–1/4 the leaf length, sometimes indistinct; median leaf cells linear, 50–80 µm × 3–5 µm, often smooth, sometimes prorate; alar cells subquadrate in 2–8 rows above one or two inflated, hyaline cells; branch leaves smaller than stem leaves. Autoicous. Inner perichaetial leaves lanceolate, ca. 1.5 mm long, slenderly acuminate, serrulate nearly apex, costa indistinct, median cells thin-walled. Setae yellowish brown or dark brown, 10–13 mm long, smooth; capsules obovoid, 1.0–1.3 mm × 0.5–0.8 mm, asymmetric, horizontal to inclined, constricted below the mouth when dry; opercula shortly rostrate; annuli developed; peristome double, hypnoid, with 2 cilia. Calyptrae not seen. Spores spherical, 12–16 µm in diameter, finely papillose.
