Plants robust, green or yellowish green, sometimes reddish brown, glossy or somewhat glossy, in loose or dense mats. Stems prostrate, to ca. 15 cm long, subpinnately branched; branches 2.0–2.5 cm long, julaceous, attenuate at tips, densely foliate. Stem leaves appressed when dry, erect-spreading when moist, oblong-elliptical, 2.0–2.5 mm × 1.1–1.2 mm, bluntly acute or apiculate at apex; margins entire or nearly so, slightly recurved; costae double, very short; median leaf cells linear, 70–85 µm × 4–6 µm; apical cells shorter; alar cells quadrate, hyaline, not extending close to costa at leaf base. Autoicous. Setae 15–20 mm long, reddish to reddish brown; capsules elongate-ellipsoidal to cylindrical, 2.5–3.0 mm long, yellowish brown to dark brown; opercula shortly conic-rostrate; annuli well developed, consisting of 2–3 rows of inflated cells; exostome teeth lanceolate, cross-striolate at base, obliquely or vertically striolate above, smooth at tips; endostome segments linear, smooth. Spores 15–18 µm in diameter, finely papillose.
