Ber. Thätigk. St. Gallischen Naturwiss. Ges. 1876–77: 442. 1878. Hypnum bancanum Sande Lac., Bryol. Jav. 2: 188. tab. 286. 1868. Type: Indonesia.
Plants yellowish green, somewhat brownish, glossy. Stems nearly prostrate or slightly ascending, 5–10 cm long, remotely pinnately branched, radiculose; branches ca. 0.5–1.0 cm long, densely foliate. Stem leaves and branch leaves similar, ovate-lanceolate, gradually acuminate, 1.0–1.3 mm × 0.3–0.4 mm, asymmetric, concave; margins entire, serrulate near apex; costae double, very short or absent; upper and median leaf cells linear, ca. 75 µm × 4–5 µm, thin-walled; basal cells shorter and lax. Autoicous. Inner perichaetial leaves lanceolate, slenderly acuminate, entire. Setae reddish, 1.2–1.4 cm long, straight or bent, slender; capsules ovoid to ellipsoid, with short neck, pendulous; opercula shortly rostrate; peristome double; exostome teeth reddish and cross-striate below, papillose above; endostome segments yellowish, perforate, with 1 cilium. Calyptrae cucullate. Spores yellowish green, 15–25 µm in diameter, papillose.
