Campylium courtoisii Paris & Broth., Rev. Bryol. 36: 12. 1909. Type: China. Anhui, Wuhu City, Courtois 1138 (holotype H).
Plants small, green, yellowish green, or brownish green, glossy, in loosely or densely caespitose mats. Stems prostrate, 5–10 cm long, irregularly branched; stem rounded in cross section; cortical cells small, 3–4 layers, thick-walled or with outer cells somewhat inflated, central strand weakly differentiated; pseudoparaphyllia polymorphous, foliose. Stem leaves spreading, lanceolate or elongate-cordate-ovate, with a long acumen, 1.2–1.5 mm × ca. 0.6 mm; costae single, reaching 1/2 the leaf length or above; margins entire or indistinctly serrulate at the base; median leaf cells vermicular, 33–50 μm × ca. 5 μm; alar cells numerous, forming a small group of incrassate, subquadrate cells. Dioicous. Inner perichaetial leaves elongate, 2.5–3.0 mm × ca. 0.5 mm, slightly plicate; costae slender, reaching 1/2 the leaf length or above. Setae 10–27 mm long, arching curved, reddish; capsules red, oblong-cylindrical, ascending or horizontal; annuli in 2 rows; endostome segments carinate; cilia 2–3, as long as the segments, nodulose or appendiculate. Spores 14–16 mm in diameter, papillose.
