Plants bright green, glossy, in loose tufts. Stems prostrate; infertile branches prostrate or sometimes ascending, sparsely foliate, with dense rhizoids; fertile branches erect, 2–3 cm high, with numerous branchlets, sparsely foliate below, more densely foliate above. Leaves crisped when dry, spreading when moist, broadly ovate-lanceolate, elliptical or rounded-ovate, ca. 5 mm × 3 mm (fertile branch leaves up to 7 mm × 2.5 mm), narrowed at base, gradually acute at apex; margins distinctly bordered, single-toothed above mid-leaf; costae nearly percurrent, smooth at back; leaf cells irregularly hexagonal, thin-walled. Dioicous. Setae solitary, ca. 2–3 cm long, yellowish; capsules elongate-ovoid, pendulous.
