Habitat: on rocks, soil, humus, tree trunks, rotten wood in forests; alt. 700–3200 m.

This species is characterized by the strongly concave and falcate stem leaves, the short costae, and the short and thin-walled leaf cells.

Nat. Pflanzenfam. I(3): 1055. 1908. Hylocomium neckerella C. Müll., Nuovo Giorn. Bot. Ital., n.s. 3: 127. 1896. Type: China. Shaanxi, Huo-gia-zien, 20 Sept. 1890, Giraldi s.n.; Si-ku-tziu-san, July 1894, Giraldi s.n.; Kuan-tou-san, July 1894, Giraldi s.n.
 
Plants robust, pale yellowish green or pale brownish green, glossy. Stems prostrate, up to 8 cm long, irregularly or pinnately branched; stem rounded in cross section; leafy stems flattened, curved, similar to Hypnum species; branches flattened, ca. 1.5 cm long; pseudoparaphyllia lanceolate, 2–9 cells wide at base. Stem leaves distinctly differentiated; dorsal leaves falcate, strongly concave, ovate-lanceolate, 2.2–2.5 mm × 1.0–1.2 mm, slenderly acuminate, cordate at base; margins recurved at base, serrulate irregularly above, entire below; costae double, short, reaching 1/6–1/5 the leaf length, separate at base; median leaf cells narrowly rhomboidal, 30–50 µm × 3–5 µm, thin-walled, smooth or prorate; alar cells distinctly differentiated, in 5–7 longitudinal rows, 10–14 transverse rows; ventral leaves plane at apex; branch leaves smaller, 1.3–1.6 mm × 0.4–0.6 mm. Inner perichaetial leaves reflexed at apex, plicate, ecostate, cells thin-walled. Setae 3.0–4.5 cm long; capsules horizontal, ovoid, 2.2–2.5 mm × 1.0–1.2 mm; cilia 2–3(–4).
