Plants robust, large, pale yellowish or pale brownish green. Stems prostrate or somewhat ascending, up to 7 cm long, irregularly or pinnately branched; leafy stems flattened to nearly terete; branches nearly terete, ca. 1 cm long; stem elliptic in cross section; pseudoparaphyllia lanceolate, 3–8 cells wide at base. Stem leaves differentiated; dorsal leaves erect or slightly falcate, broadly elliptic-lanceolate, 2.7–3.5 mm × 1.1–1.7 mm, nearly cordate at base, slenderly acuminate; margins somewhat recurved nearly throughout, distinctly serrulate above; costae double, reaching 1/3–1/2 the leaf length, often united at base; median leaf cells linear-rhomboidal, 35–65 µm × 2–3 µm, rarely prorate; alar cells distinctly differentiated, in 8–10 longitudinal and transverse rows; ventral leaves plane at apex; branch leaves smaller, 1.9–2.4 mm × 1.0–1.4 mm. Inner perichaetial leaves twisted or reflexed at apex, ecostate, cells thin-walled. Setae 2.0–2.5 cm long, orange-red; capsules horizontal.
