This species is characterized by its narrowly lanceolate leaves with rugose leaf apices, decurrent leaf bases, and slightly differentiated alar cells.

Plants small to medium-sized, pale yellowish green or pale brownish green, glossy. Stems prostrate, up to 6 cm long, regularly or irregularly pinnately branched; stem rounded in cross section; leafy stems flattened, secund; branches nearly terete, ca. 1 cm long; pseudoparaphyllia lanceolate, with filiform apices, 3–7 cells wide at base. Stem leaves differentiated; dorsal leaves slightly secund, narrowly ovate-lanceolate, 1.0–2.0 mm × 0.35–0.75 mm, nearly cordate, slenderly acuminate at apex, often plicate, decurrent, rugose at apex; margins recurved nearly throughout, serrulate above; costae double, reaching to 1/4–1/3 the leaf length, usually separate at base; median leaf cells linear-rhomboidal, 50–70 µm × 3–5 µm, thick-walled, prorate; alar cells slightly differentiated, in 3–5 longitudinal rows, 4–6 transverse rows; ventral leaves distinctly rugose at apex; branch leaves smaller, 1.0–1.6 mm × 0.3–0.5 mm. Inner perichaetial leaves reflexed at apex, ecostate, cells thick-walled. Setae 3.5–6.0 cm long; capsules inclined to horizontal, ovoid, 1.8–2.0 mm × 0.9–1.2 mm; cilia 2–3. Spores 13–21 µm in diameter.
