This species is characterized by the short and blunt leaf apices, serrulate leaf margins, short and prorate leaf cells, and the long costae.

Plants medium-sized, pale yellowish green, sometimes pale reddish. Stems prostrate, up to 4 cm long, irregularly or pinnately branched; stem elliptic in cross section; leafy stems flattened or nearly terete, branches terete, ca. 1.5 cm long; pseudoparaphyllia lanceolate, 4–8 cells wide at base. Stem leaves differentiated; dorsal leaves erect, or slightly falcate, ovate-lanceolate, 1.3–1.6 mm × 0.7–0.9 mm, decurrent at base, shortly and bluntly acuminate. Inner perichaetial leaves reflexed at apex, ecostate, cells thin-walled. Setae 2.0–2.5 cm long; capsules horizontal, ovoid, slightly curved, 1.7–1.8 mm × 1.1–1.2 mm. Spores minutely papillose.
