Hedwigia 80: 57. 1941. Hymenostylium laxirete Broth., Symb. Sin. 4: 32. 1929. Type. China: Yunnan, Li-jiang Co., Handel-Mazzetti 4204 (holotype H).
Plants medium-sized to rather large, 30–60 mm high, in dense tufts. Stems erect, usually branched, densely foliate. Leaves ovate at the base, rather abruptly narrowed and lanceolate above the base, blunt at the apex; margins plane, entire; costa stout, ending just below the apex; upper leaf cells rounded or oblong-elliptic hexagonal, strongly thick-walled, irregularly arranged; basal cells broader and longer, irregularly rectangular or oblong-elliptic, rather thick-walled, all cells smooth. Sporophytes unknown.
