Plants slender, yellowish green or brownish green, in lax mats. Stems creeping, ca. 1–3 cm long, irregularly pinnately branched; branches 3–5 mm long; central strand absent. Stem leaves rather small, appressed when dry, erect-spreading when moist, slightly concave, ovate, gradually narrowed into a short acute apex, ca. 0.6 mm long; leaf margins papillose; costa covering ca. 2/3 the leaf length; median leaf cells rounded quadrate or hexagonal, thin-walled, multipapillose; basal median cells oblong or oblong-ovate, smooth; branch leaves slightly larger than stem leaves, ovate or oblong ovate, isomorphic. Dioicous. Perichaetial leaves oblong, with narrow lanceolate apex. Setae yellowish brown, ca. 5 mm long; capsules oblong ovoid; peristome teeth similar to those of H. triste. Calyptrae minutely papillose and rarely erect ciliated. Spores nearly spherical, papillose.
