Plants robust, dark green or brownish green, glossy, in loosely caespitose mats. Stems erect, to 30 cm long, pinnately branched, distantly foliate. Stem leaves erect, 1.5–3.0 mm × 1.5–2.5 mm, cordate-ovate, obtuse or cucullate at apex; margins entire; costae single, reaching to leaf apex; median leaf cells linear-rhomboidal; alar cells numerous, quadrate or short quadrate, hyaline, enlarged, forming a sharply delimited group, usually extending close to costa at leaf base; branch leaves similar to stem leaves in shape, smaller. Dioicous. Setae 50–70 mm long, reddish; capsules ca. 2.5 mm long, inclined, curved, cylindrical; endostome segments slightly carinate; cilia 2–4, nodulose. Spores 13–17 mm in diameter, minutely papillose.
