Plants medium-sized, rather robust, dark green or brownish green, in loose mats. Stems prostrate, to 5–6 cm long; central strand weakly differentiated; pseudoparaphyllia absent. Stem leaves large, imbricate, oblong, abruptly narrowed to a short acumen; margins entire; costae single, strong, ending in the leaf apex or nearly subpercurrent; median leaf cells 30–40 mm × ca. 4 mm, vermicular, thick-walled; alar cells numerous, quadrate to rectangular, hyaline. Autoicous. Inner perichaetial leaves elongate-lanceolate, 3–4 mm × ca. 0.6 mm, plicate; costae thick, reaching ca. 2/3 the leaf length. Setae 15–20 mm long, reddish brown; capsules reddish brown, erect, shortly ovoid to subglobose; endostome segments carinate, smooth or minutely papillose; cilia 2–3, shorter than or as long as the segments, nodulose. Spores large, 25–30 mm in diameter, papillose.
