Plants rather robust, dark green to brownish green, not glossy, in loose tufts. Primary stems prostrate, sparsely foliate, with dense rhizoids; secondary stems erect, simple, 4–6 cm high, with reddish brown rhizoids throughout. Lower leaves broadly ovate to elliptical; upper leaves oblong-elliptical to ligulate, ca. 3–6 mm × 1.9 mm, rather broad at base, not clearly decurrent, abruptly acute at apex; margins dentate, not bordered above the mid-leaf, somewhat bordered by 1–2 rows of elongate cells below; costae ending above the mid-leaf, smooth at back; leaf cells rounded-hexagonal, ca. 25–35 µm in diameter, thick-walled, clearly porose; marginal and basal cells sometimes slightly differentiated, usually elongate-hexagonal to elliptical. Dioicous. Sporophytes not seen.
