Plants medium-sized to rather large, dark green, in loose tufts. Stems prostrate, with dense reddish brown rhizoids at base; fertile branches erect, 2.0–2.5 cm high, radiculose below, densely foliate above; infertile branches creeping, curved, ca. 8.0 cm long, sparsely foliate. Leaves crisped when dry, spreading when moist, usually broadly obovate, 5–7 mm × ca. 3.2 mm, narrowed and decurrent at base, abruptly acute, ending with a long tip at apex; margins bordered by 3–5 rows of obliquely rectangular cells below mid-leaf, by 1–2 rows of differentiated cells above mid-leaf, serrate in the upper part of leaf margins, with 2-celled teeth; costae ending below the apex; leaf cells lax, large, irregularly pentagonal to hexagonal. Dioicous. Setae solitary, or 2–3-clusterd, 3–4 cm long; capsules elongate-ovoid, ca. 4 mm × 2 mm, pendulous.
