Plants rather robust, in loose tufts. Primary stems prostrate, with dense, brownish rhizoids; secondary stems erect, ca. 5–8 cm high, with many branchlets at top, sparsely foliate below, densely foliate above, forming rosettes on fertile branches. Leaves crisped when dry, spreading when moist, narrowly oblong-ovate or oblong-ligulate, 6–9 mm × 1.5–3.0 mm, distinctly undulate, narrowed and slightly decurrent at base, abruptly or gradually acute at apex; margins distinctly bordered by 2–3 rows of elongate cells, serrate throughout, with teeth consisting of 1–2 cells; costae percurrent; leaf cells small, hexagonal to irregularly rounded, walls thickened at corners. Dioicous. Setae clustered, ca. 3.5–4.5 cm long; capsules elongate-ovoid to shortly cylindrical, pendulous.
