Plants rather large, green or yellowish green, in loose tufts. Stems and branches creeping, 4–6 cm long, sparsely foliate, with dense, yellowish brown rhizoids. Leaves crisped and undulate when dry, spreading when moist, broadly ovate-elliptical or rounded-ovate, 4–8 mm × 2–3 mm, narrowed at base, obtuse, apiculate at apex; margins bordered by 3–4 rows of elongate cells, denticulate above, entire below; costae percurrent or nearly so; leaf cells rather large, irregularly hexagonal, thin-walled, not collenchymatous. Dioicous. Setae usually clustered, 2–3 cm long; capsules cylindrical, horizontal to pendulous; peristome double; basal membrane ca. 1/2 the height of the teeth; cilia 3, well developed. Spores 20–25 µm in diameter.
