Plants slender, small, usually bright green, rarely dark green, in loose tufts. Stems erect, ca. 1.0 cm high, simple, rarely branched. Leaves dimorphic, not crisped when dry; lower stem leaves rounded-ovate, gradually acute, 2–3 mm × 1.0–1.2 mm; margins entire, not distinctly bordered; middle stem leaves oblong- to ovate-lanceolate, ca. 3–4 mm × 0.5–0.9 mm, gradually acute, slightly decurrent at base; margins distinctly bordered by 2–3 rows obliquely rectangular cells, double-toothed, occasionally single-toothed; costae reddish, smooth at back, ending well below the apex; leaf cells irregularly hexagonal, not thickened at corners, uniformly thick-walled. Dioicous. Setae solitary, 1.0–1.5 cm long; capsules horizontal to pendulous, shortly cylindrical.
