Plants small to medium-sized, slender, dark green to yellowish or reddish brown, in loose tufts. Stems erect, to 1.5–2.0 cm high, sparsely branched, with dense reddish brown rhizoids at base. Leaves appressed, crisped when dry, erect-spreading when moist, rounded-ovate to oblong-ovate, gradually acute; margins narrowly bordered by 2–3 rows of linear cells, double-toothed, slightly decurrent at base; costae reddish, percurrent to shortly excurrent, smooth at the back; leaf cells irregularly hexagonal or more or less rounded, 20–25 µm wide, clearly thickened at corners. Dioicous. Setae solitary, yellowish red, ca. 1.5 cm long; capsules elongate-ellipsoidal, horizontal to pendulous; neck short; exostome teeth lanceolate; basal membrane ca. 1/2 the height of teeth; cilia 2–3. Spores 20–25 µm in diameter, minutely papillose.
