Plants slender, dark green to brownish green, in loose tufts. Stems erect, 3–5 cm high, rarely branched. Leaves distant, twisted when dry, oblong- to ovate-lanceolate, ca. 3–5 mm × 1.2–1.5 mm, narrowed at base, gradually acute at apex; margins distinctly bordered by 2–3 rows of linear cells, reddish, double-toothed; costae reddish, nearly percurrent, with sharp teeth at back; leaf cells irregularly hexagonal, oval to elliptical, thick-walled at corners. Dioicous. Setae solitary, 2–3 cm long; capsules inclined, ovoid-cylindrical, ca. 4–5 mm × 1.6–2.2 mm, mouth large; endostome segments perforate; cilia 3. Spores 20–25 µm in diameter, minutely papillose.
