Plants small, 3–5 mm high, dark, somewhat glaucous-green, gregarious or in low tangled sods. Stems very short; rhizoids dark red. Leaves curled-contorted and somewhat undulate when dry, ascending when moist, broadly linear above broader base, tapering only at apex, 2–4 mm long, axillary hairs inconspicuous; cells of upper laminae obscure, isodiametric, finely pluripapillose abaxially and adaxially, papillae low (cells not bulging papillose); margins of upper laminae bordered all around with elongate hyaline cells, entire except more or less toothed toward apex; cancellinae narrowly rounded distally. Gemmae frequent, inconspicuous, borne on adaxial surface of costa tip. Sporophytes not seen.
