Plants robust, dark yellowish green to pale yellowish green, brown or yellowish brown when old, caespitose, in loosely tufted mats. Primary stems creeping, nudicaulous, secondary stems erect, 4–10 cm long; branches remote, 1–3 cm long; central strand present. Stem leaves crisped when dry, erect-spreading when moist, crowded, ovate or oblong, sheathing at base, gradually narrowed to elongate lingulate, rounded obtuse at the apex, 2.5–6.0 mm long; leaf margins papillose; costa single, nearly excurrent; median leaf cells rounded hexagonal or hexagonal, 10–22 µm wide, densely papillose; branch leaves narrowly ovate-lingulate, slightly smaller than the stem leaves. Dioicous. Perichaetial leaves ovate, lanceolate toward the apex, ca. 1.5 mm long. Setae slender, yellowish brown, smooth; capsules ovoid, 2–3 mm long; opercula conic with beaks; exostome teeth yellowish brown, ca. 0.5 mm long, papillose above; endostome segments ca. 2/3 the length of exostome teeth; basal membrane very low. Calyptrae smooth. Spores ca. 15 µm in diameter.
