Musci Buitenzorg 3: 1266. 1923. Rhaphidostegium phoeniceum Jaeg., Ber. Thätigk. St. Gallischen Naturwiss. Ges. 1877–78: 485. 1880. Hypnum phoeniceum C. Müll., Flora 61: 85. 1878. Type: India. South Andaman.
 
Plants in tufts, glossy. Main stems prostrate, with erect branches. Leaves erect or slightly obliquely ascending, often narrowly lanceolate, 1.0–1.25 mm long, concave, long acuminate to slender at apex; margins plane or slightly involute, entire or crenulate at apex; leaf cells narrowly rhomboidal to linear, 65–80 mm × 2–4 mm, gradually becoming longer and narrower in middle; alar cells inflated. Monoicous. Perigonial leaves small, narrowly lanceolate. Inner perichaetial leaves ovate-lanceolate, gradually constricted into a long acuminate acumen, nearly entire at margins; paraphyses abundant, stiff. Setae short, less than 7 mm long; capsules ovoid, inclined; opercula slenderly rostrate; exostome teeth lanceolate; endostome segments reduced, filamentous.
