Yushania 1(2): 13. 1984. Brotherella tenuirostris (Bruch & Schimp. ex Sull.) Broth., Nat. Pflanzenfam. (ed. 2) 11: 425. 1925. Leskea tenuirostris Bruch & Schimp. ex Sull. in Gray, Manual 668. 1848. Type: USA. North Carolina.
Plants soft, green to brown. Stems irregularly or irregularly branched, slender, prostrate. Leaves strongly falcate, oblong-lanceolate, ca. 1 mm long, concave, long acuminate; margins involute below, entire or serrate above; leaf cells elongate rhomboidal to linear, 50–70 mm × 3–4 mm; alar cells inflated, golden yellowish. Inner perichaetial leaves large, ovate-lanceolate, ca. three times longer than the vegetative leaves, slenderly acuminate at apex; margins irregularly serrulate; basal cells colored, slightly inflated, thin-walled. Setae ca. 2 cm long, smooth; capsules erect, ellipsoidal to cylindrical, ca. 2 mm long; opercula long rostrate; peristome double, hypnoid; basal membrane high; cilia absent.
