general taxon notes:
This species is characterized by the glossy, flattened plants, and densely imbricate leaves with short acumens.

2. Taxiphyllum aomoriense (Besch.) Iwats.   细尖鳞叶藓  xi jian lin ye xian
J. Hattori. Bot. Lab. 26: 67. 1963. Plagiothecium aomoriense Besch., Ann. Sci. Nat., Bot., ser. 7, 17: 385. 1893. Type: Japan.
Gollania densifolia Dix., Hong Kong Naturalist, Suppl. 2: 30. 1933. Type: China. Chihli Prov., Clemens 5096b.
 
Plants yellowish green, glossy. Stems prostrate, flattened, pinnately branched; pseudoparaphyllia small, foliose. Leaves imbricately complanate, more or less distichous, ovate, shortly acuminate at apex, 1.5–1.8 mm × 0.7–0.9 mm; margins bluntly denticulate to serrulate near apex; costae indistinct; median leaf cells elongate-rhomboidal to linear, 65–85 µm × 6–7 µm; basal cells shorter, thick-walled; alar cells differentiated, shortly rectangular to hexagonal. Dioicous. Inner perichaetial leaves 2.5 mm long, with a curved, slender apex. Setae 12–15 mm long, curved; capsules horizontal, dark blackish when old, cylindrical, 1.5–1.7 mm × 0.8–0.9 mm; peristome teeth ca. 0.6 mm long. Calyptrae not seen. Spores 10–13 µm in diameter.
