general taxon notes:
This species is characterized by the rather robust plants, the absence of a central strand, recurved leaf margins nearly throughout, strongly thick-walled leaf cells, and subquadrate alar cells.

Plants rather robust, brownish. Stems prostrate, up to 4 cm long, irregularly branched or remotely pinnately branched; branches 0.5–1.0 cm long, stems and branches often curved; in stem cross section epidermal cells not inflated, outer cortical cells in 2–4 layers, small, thick-walled, brownish, medullar cells large, lax, hyaline; central strand absent; pseudoparaphyllia small, lanceolate. Stem leaves ovate- or elliptical-lanceolate, 2.5–3.0 mm × 0.65–0.75 mm, concave, falcate-secund, slenderly acuminate; margins recurved nearly throughout, entire or serrulate above; costae double, short, separate at base; median leaf cells linear, 40–60 µm × ca. 2 µm, strongly thick-walled, porose, basal cells brownish; alar cells lax, hyaline or brownish, subquadrate, thick-walled; branch leaves smaller, 1.8–2.3 mm × 0.4–0.5 mm, median cells 30–50 µm × 1.2–1.5 µm, strongly thick-walled. Sporophytes not seen.
