general taxon notes:
This species is similar toPapillidiopsis ramulina in general appearance, but differs from the latter in having larger plants with branches up to 15 mm long and shortly acuminate leaves.

Plants rather large, glossy, in extensive mats. Stems prostrate; branches up to 15 mm long. Leaves appressed and slightly secund, oblong-lanceolate, concave, leaf acumen nearly 1/5 the entire leaf length; margins plane, reflexed to incurved in the upper 1/3, entire below, weakly denticulate at apex; leaf cells linear, 90–112 mm long, thick-walled, pitted, becoming shorter or elongate-oval toward apex. Inner perichaetial leaves smaller than vegetative leaves, ovate-lanceolate, shortly acuminate or obtusely acute, serrulate; cells linear, often papillose. Setae up to 10 mm long, smooth above, papillose below; capsules oblong-ovoid, inclined; exothecial cells collenchymatous, slightly mammillose.
