Plants small to large, in loose mats or interwoven patches. Stems irregularly branched; branches up to 2.5 cm long. Leaves erect-spreading, usually falcate, oblong-lanceolate, 2–3 mm × 0.2–0.3 mm, long acuminate at apex; leaf cells linear, 45–70 mm long, thick-walled, clearly pitted. Inner perichaetial leaves abruptly shortly acute or acuminate; margins often serrulate at sheathing bases. Setae more than 15 mm long, smooth below, papillose above.
