Plants tufted, yellowish green to dark green. Stems simple or branched, 1.5–4.0 cm high, with complanate, flexuous leaves when dry, without a central strand in cross section. Leaves dimorphic, lateral leaves oblong-obovate, 1.5–5.0 mm × 1–3 mm, median leaves ovate to oblong-ovate, acute to long mucronate; laminal cells mostly oblong-fusiform in the upper half of the leaf, (50–)72–101(–112) µm × 22–33 µm, moderately thick-walled, becoming narrowly rectangular at base; leaf margins plane, strongly toothed, at times bi-geminate, with 1–2 rows of differentiated linear cells, thick-walled, not obviously pitted. Perichaetial leaves small, ovate, 2 mm long, abruptly acuminate to cuspidate. Perigonial leaves small, ovate to lanceolate. Setae lateral, about 5–6 mm long, spinose; capsules ovoid; exostome teeth as C. japonica; opercula beaked. Calyptrae not seen.
