BROWSE THE SEAGRASSES OF MADAGASCAR
The Seagrasses are the only true plants that have adapted to a fully marine habitat, where they grow submerged alongside algae (which are not true plants). Taxonomy of Seagrasses is confusing, and remains in a state of flux. We follow APG3, which refers all Seagrasses to the Alismatales and divides them among 4 families, 3 of which are present in Madagascar, and 10 spp are currently known.
Although poorly known taxonomically, Seagrasses of enormous importance ecologically. The following articles are useful, and further general information is available on Wikipedia, and through links on List of Sea Grass websites.
