Description Co-dominant tree to 5 m, ultimate fertile branches about 3 cm diameter, leaves developed in fascicles on upper surface, about 1 cm long, spines up to 2 cm long. Inflorescence sessile, produced on lower surface of branch along terminal 50 cm, flowers in cluster of 12 or more; pedicellate, those of male plants barely reaching the tips of spines, those of females reaching or passing them. Pedicels green or pinkish petals and sepals pale green the sepals of female flowers greatly enlarged. Stamens, style and stigma deep pink-red.
Locality Berenty Reserve. Forêt d'Anjapolo. Dominated by Didierea trollii & Alluaudia procera.
