Description Small shrub, c. 30 cm tall, with branches with many twigs spreading in one plane giving a flat, fan-shaped form; twigs greyish, woody, stiff, the youngest +/- flattened. Leaves small, greyish olive green, subcoriaceous, with appressed minute white hairs. Inflorescences very short, near twig apices, with few flowers opening singly, c. 7-8 mm tall; calyx with 5 nar- row lobes, star-shaped, sage green stained reddish; standard c. 6 mm long, deep mauve purple with a very small white spot at the base; wings c. 8 mm x 3 mm, mauve, appressed to the top of the keel; keel c. 6 mm long (limb c. 4 mm), deep mauve. Pod cylindrical, olive green, glossy, with sparse ap- pressed white hairs.
Locality S Madagascar, Province of Toliara (Tulear), 25 km east of Amboasary, 50 km west of Fort-Dauphin (Taolanaro). Dry, spiny shrubland with Decarya madagascariensis, Alluaudia comosa, A. dumosa, Euphorbia stenoclada and other terete Euphorbias, on sandy lateritic soil.
