Description
|
Shrub or small tree c. 3-5 m tall, deciduous; bark pale grey, mottled, smooth; dbh on larger trunks c. 15 cm; twigs pale grey with white lenticels; young shoots with a dark blackish brown indumentum. Flowers vanilla scented, mauve pink (candy pink) fading to lilac, the standard with a pale green basal eye; calyx suffused red-brown with 3 lower teeth and 2 upper teeth very small and close together. Flowers on short pseudoracemes, in pairs or groups of 4, usually 6 per inflorescence. Pods flat, woody, pale brown, with 2 or 3 seeds, cracked on the surface. NOTE: Pollinated by large black and yellow bees (specimens taken), and visited by sunbirds (back and wings with a blue sheen).
