Description	Tree to c. 18 m tall. Bark slash red, with scattered spines on the trunk. Leaves blue-green, paler beneath, mostly with 4/5 pairs of pinnae. Spines brown, dark-tipped. Pods reddish brown, almost ripe, ripening dark brown, flat. Trunk with smooth bark and scattered thick woody spines.
Locality	E of Betioky, Valley of the Hazoara River, 6 km south of Beza Mahafaly Reserve (feeding into the Sakamena River). In tall Tamarindus dominated forest in river valley, on sandstone. Frequent.
